Seeing an amazing fireworks display is a necessity while vacationing in Disney World, whether you’re a child or an adult. However, if you have ever watched Wishes at Magic Kingdom, some of the magic tends to seep through the cracks. Generally it accompanies being wedged in the middle of thousands of strollers, screaming kids, and clueless parents. Don’t even get me started on the 20 minutes that follow after the fireworks end. Absolute anxiety. Everyone makes a mad dash for the exits, similar to the stampede that almost took out baby Simba. You’re lucky if you come out of that alive.

Luckily, Disney has created an adult-friendly viewing spot for the beautiful Wishes firework spectacular. If you are going to Disney World sans kids/strollers, this is an absolute must do. Enjoy the fireworks the right way…a perfect view, a cocktail in your hand, and nobody in your personal space (besides your significant other)!
Make a reservation at the California Grill. It sits on the top of the Contemporary Resort, which is right across from the Magic Kingdom. The menu is very modern; fusion Californian with a killer sushi menu. We have eaten dinner there, and the food is tasty. But during our last trip to Disney, our California Grill/Wishes Night consisted of a cheese plate, a bottle of wine, dessert, and beautiful fireworks. And it was a PERFECT night.
The Restaurant has two viewing decks where guests can go out during their dinners to watch the show. They even cover your food and turn the lights off in the restaurant so everyone is able to enjoy the experience. The music is played through speakers on the decks, and the view couldn’t be better anywhere else, not even if you were right under them at Magic Kingdom.
PS- Their desserts are ADORABLE!
Make a reservation at California Grill as soon as you can. It’s a popular restaurant so it books up close to 180 days out. Check what time Wishes are that night, and I recommend making your reservation 30 minutes before. Perfect amount of time to settle in with your cocktail, and then enjoy some food after the show. If you can’t get an ideal reservation time and your reservation is earlier in the evening, don’t worry because they invite you to return to view the fireworks from their top notch viewing spot anyway!
In my opinion, this is a MUST DO!
